Fisheries Legislation (Barramundi and Other Matters) Amendment Regulation 2026

1Short title

This regulation may be cited as the Fisheries Legislation (Barramundi and Other Matters) Amendment Regulation 2026.

2Commencement

Part 2 commences on 1 January 2027.

3Regulation amended

This part amends the Fisheries (Commercial Fisheries) Regulation 2019.

4Insertion of new sch 4, s 24A

Schedule 4, before section 25—
insert—

24AWhere particular fish may be taken

Barramundi may be taken under the licence only in a part of the fishery area, if any, that is north of the southern bank of Kauri Creek.

5Insertion of new sch 4, s 89A

27JTaking or possessing black jewfish in regulated period—waters other than the Gulf of Carpentaria waters

(1)A person must not in the waters other than the Gulf of Carpentaria waters—

(a)take a black jewfish in the regulated period; or

(b)possess a black jewfish taken in contravention of paragraph (a).

(2)For subsection (1)(a), the regulated period is from 1 November to 31 January.

10Relocation and renumbering of s 29 (Taking or possessing black jewfish—North Cape York)

Section 29—
relocate to chapter 2, part 5, division 3C as inserted by this regulation and renumber as section 27I.
