standard is a guide to how to satisfy the general safetyobligationsunderpart42oftheActforrecreationalships,whether or not they are required to be
registered.Part 2Provisions about
allrecreational ships5Who
part applies toThis part applies to a person who is the
owner or master of arecreationalship,whetherornottheshipisrequiredtoberegistered.6NavigationArecreationalship operating in
or beyondpartiallysmoothwaters should be equipped with a liquid
damped compass anda navigation chart appropriate to the
operational area.7Anchoring(1)A
recreational ship should be equipped with—(a)for a
ship less than 5 m operating in smooth waters—ananchor with at least 18 m of cable;

standards) of the Act

than 5 m operating in or beyond partiallysmooth waters—an
anchor with at least 27 m of cable;or(c)for a ship 5 m or more but less than 8
m operating in anyoperational area—an anchor with at least 27
m of cable;or(d)foraship8 mormoreoperatinginanyoperationalarea—2 anchors
each with at least 37 m of cable.(2)Despite subsection (1), the type and weight
of anchor and thelength and thickness of the cable should be
appropriate for—(a)the type and weight of ship;
and(b)the weather and sea conditions;
and(c)the nature of the seabed.(3)In this section—cablemeans—(a)for a
ship less than 5 m—a chain or rope; or(b)for a
ship 5 m or more—(i)a chain; or(ii)a
chain of at least 2 m attached to the anchor and arope.8BalingA recreational
ship should be equipped with—(a)for a
ship less than 5 m—baling equipment appropriatefor the type of
ship; or(b)for a ship 5 m or more but less than 8
m—a pump orotherbalingequipmentwithaminimumcapacityof45 L per minute; or(c)foraship8 mormore—apumporotherbalingequipment with a minimum capacity of 70 L
per minute.

registration.13Safety equipment in smooth
waters(1)Arecreationalshipoperatinginsmoothwatersshouldbeequipped with—(a)a PFD
type 1, 2 or 3 for each person on board; and(b)iftheshipismorethan5
m—firefightingequipmentcapableofextinguishingfireontheshipquicklyandeffectively.

apply if the ship—(a)operates in a river, creek, stream or
the waters containedwithin breakwaters or revetments; and(b)haspositiveflotationandisequippedwithgrablines,grab rails or
something else that gives a person on boarda way of keeping
a secure hold to the ship.(3)The ship is taken
not to be equipped with safety equipmentcomprisinglifejacketsorpersonalflotationdevicesunlessthereisanappropriatesizelifejacketorpersonalflotationdevice for each person on board.(4)In this section—positive
flotationsee schedule 15 of the regulation.14Safety equipment in or beyond
partially smooth waters(1)A recreational
shipoperating in or beyond partially
smoothwaters should be equipped with—(a)for each person on board—(i)for a ship operating in partially
smooth waters—aPFD type 1 or 2; or(ii)forashipoperatingbeyondpartiallysmoothwaters—a PFD type 1; and(b)a V
sheet; and(c)2 hand held red flares; and(d)2 hand held orange smoke signals;
and(e)iftheshipismorethan5 m—firefightingequipmentcapableofextinguishingfireontheshipquicklyandeffectively.(2)The
ship is taken not to be equipped with safety equipmentcomprisinglifejacketsorpersonalflotationdevicesunlessthereisanappropriatesizelifejacketorpersonalflotationdevice for each person on
board.

schedule 15 of the regulation.15Exceptions for anyone wearing wet suit and
diver’s jacket(1)Thissectionappliesifapersononarecreationalshipiswearing a wet suit and inflatable
diver’s jacket.(2)Despitesections13and14,theshipneednotbeequippedwith
a personal flotation device for the person.16Safety equipment to be serviced or
replaced(1)This section applies if a recreational
ship’s safety equipmentunder section 13 or 14 has an expiry
date by which it shouldbe serviced or replaced.(2)The ship is taken not to be equipped
with safety equipmentunder section 13 or 14 unless the
equipment has been servicedor replaced before the expiry
date.Part 4Expiry17ExpiryThis standard
