43of the regulation.5Purpose of standard(1)This
standard is a guide to how to satisfy the general safetyobligations under part 44of
the Act for commercial ships andfishing
ships.(2)Theequipmentmentionedinsection6isinadditiontothesafety equipment
required by part 2 and part 5, division 85ofthe regulation.6Miscellaneous equipment(1)Acommercialshiporfishingshipshouldbeequippedinaccordance with the USL code, sections 12,
13 and 18.6(2)Alternatively,acommercialshiporfishingshipshouldbeequipped with equipment to—(a)safely navigate the ship in the
intended operational areain all expected weather conditions for
the area; andExamples of equipment for paragraph
(a)—charts, radar, compasses(b)safely secure the ship in the intended
operational area inall expected weather conditions for the area
should it bedisabled and afloat; and3Part3(Accreditation,shipbuildingandregistrationofships),division4(Registration of ships) of the

Equipment)Interim Standard 2005(c)enable the ship to communicate with another
ship, or ashorebasedradiostation,intheintendedoperationalarea in all
expected weather conditions for the area; and(d)provideasafeenvironment,firstaidandreasonablecomfort to anyone on board the ship;
andExamples of equipment for paragraph
(d)—handrails, stairs(e)allowanyonesafeunhinderedaccesstoandfromtheship; andExample of
equipment for paragraph (e)—a sturdy
passenger gangway with handrails(f)safely secure the ship in the intended
operational area inall expected weather conditions for the area
to enable—(i)anyone to embark or disembark;
or(ii)cargo to be transferred to or from the
ship; and(g)indicateweatherchangeswithintheship’soperationalarea.(3)The equipment mentioned in this
section should be in goodworking order.7ExpiryThis standard
expires 6 months after its commencement.8RepealThe Transport
