s1 3 Nature Conservation ( Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2004 Nature Conservation (Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2004 [reprinted as in force on 1 January 2005] s4 1 Short title This notice may be cited as the Nature Conservation (Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2004 . 2 Commencement This notice commences on 1 January 2005. 3 Macropods to which notice applies This notice applies to the following (each a harvest macropod )— (a) an eastern grey kangaroo ( Macropus giganteus ); (b) a red kangaroo ( Macropus rufus ); (c) a wallaroo ( Macropus robustus ); (d) a whiptail wallaby ( Macropus parryi ). 4 Definitions In this notice— animal food means a substance ordinarily consumed, or intended for consumption, by animals. estimated population size , for a harvest macropod, for a region, means the population size estimated by the chief executive for the macropod for the region. harvest macropod see section 3. human food means a substance ordinarily consumed, or intended for consumption, by humans.
s5 4 s5 Nature Conservation ( Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2004 maximum amount , for a harvest macropod, for a relevant region for the macropod, means— (a) for an eastern grey kangaroo— (i) for the central region—14.9% of the estimated population size for the kangaroo; or (ii) for the eastern region—10% of the estimated population size for the kangaroo; or (iii) for the western region—10% of the estimated population size for the kangaroo; or (b) for a red kangaroo— (i) for the central region—18.6% of the estimated population size for the kangaroo; or (ii) for the eastern region—10% of the estimated population size for the kangaroo; or (iii) for the western region—10% of the estimated population size for the kangaroo; or (c) for a wallaroo— (i) for the central region—14.8% of the estimated population size for the wallaroo; or (ii) for the eastern region—10% of the estimated population size for the wallaroo; or (iii) for the western region—10% of the estimated population size for the wallaroo; or (d) for a whiptail wallaby for all of the relevant regions for the wallaby—1% of the estimated population size for the wallaby. relevant region , for a harvest macropod, means each region mentioned and described in the schedule for the macropod. 5 Harvest period for harvest macropods (1) A harvest period for a harvest macropod starts, for each relevant region for the macropod, on 1 January 2005 and ends on—
s6 5 s6 Nature Conservation ( Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2004 (a) if the chief executive has published a notice stating the chief executive is satisfied the maximum amount for the macropod for the region will have been taken by a particular day—the particular day; or (b) otherwise—31 December 2005. (2) A notice mentioned in subsection (1)(a) must be published— (a) in a newspaper circulating generally throughout the State; and (b) on or before the day the harvest period ends. 1 (3) If the chief executive publishes, or intends to publish, a notice mentioned in subsection (1)(a) for a macropod, the chief executive must also give each holder of a commercial or recreational wildlife harvesting licence for the macropod a written notice stating— (a) the chief executive is satisfied the maximum amount for the macropod for a relevant region will have been taken by a particular day; and (b) the harvest period for the macropod for the region ends on that day. (4) The chief executive must give the notice mentioned in subsection (3) at least 7 days before the day the harvest period ends. 6 Condition about size of harvest macropods taken for skin only (1) This section applies if a person intends to take a harvest macropod for its skin only. (2) The person may take the macropod only if the skin of the macropod has an area of at least— (a) if the macropod is a whiptail wallaby—0.32 m 2 ; or (b) otherwise—0.37 m 2 . 1 A copy of a notice published under this section may be inspected on the department’s website. s7 6 s8 Nature Conservation ( Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2004 7 Condition about weight of harvest macropods taken for meat only or meat and skin (1) This section applies if a person intends to take a harvest macropod for its meat only or for both its meat and skin. (2) The person may take the macropod only if the carcass of the macropod— (a) weighs at least 20 kg in whole form; or (b) will weigh, after the macropod has been dressed— (i) for a macropod taken for animal food—at least 13 kg; or (ii) for a macropod taken for human food—at least 14 kg. (3) For subsection (2), a macropod has been dressed only if— (a) it has been skinned; or (b) its head, paws, tail or any of its internal organs have been removed. 8 Expiry This notice expires on 1 January 2006.
7 Nature Conservation ( Macropod Harvest Period) Notice 2004 Schedule Relevant regions for macropods section 4, definition relevant region Part 1 Relevant regions for eastern grey kangaroos Central region The central region for eastern grey kangaroos consists of the areas of the following local governments— Aramac, Balonne, Barcaldine, Barcoo, Bendemere, Blackall, Booringa, Bulloo, Bungil, Flinders, Ilfracombe, Isisford, Longreach, McKinlay, Murilla, Murweh, Paroo, Quilpie, Richmond, Tambo, Tara, Taroom, Waggamba, Warroo and Winton. Eastern region The eastern region for eastern grey kangaroos consists of the areas of the following local governments— Banana, Bauhinia, Beaudesert, Belyando, Biggenden, Boonah, Bowen, Broadsound, Burdekin, Burnett, Caboolture, Calliope, Cambooya, Cardwell, Chinchilla, Clifton, Crows Nest, Croydon, Dalrymple, Duaringa, Eidsvold, Emerald, Esk, Etheridge, Fitzroy, Gatton, Gayndah, Herberton, Inglewood, Isis, Jericho, Jondaryan, Kilcoy, Kilkivan, Kingaroy, Kolan, Laidley, Livingstone, Millmerran, Mirani, Miriam Vale, Monto, Mount Morgan, Mundubbera, Murgon, Nanango, Nebo, Peak Downs, Perry, Pittsworth, Rosalie, Sarina, Stanthorpe, Tiaro, Wambo, Warwick, Wondai and Woocoo.
