be cited as theNatureConservation(MacropodHarvestPeriod)Notice2003.2CommencementThis notice
commences on 1 January 2004.3Macropods to which notice appliesThis
notice applies to the following macropods—(a)an
eastern grey kangaroo (Macropusgiganteus);(b)a red kangaroo
(Macropusrufus);(c)a wallaroo
(Macropusrobustus);(d)a whiptail
wallaby (Macropusparryi).4DefinitionsIn this
notice—“animal food”meansasubstanceordinarilyconsumed,orintendedforconsumption, by animals.“dress”, a
macropod—(a)means—(i)to
skin the macropod; or(ii)to remove the
head, paws, tail or an internal organ of themacropod;
and(b)does not include to process the
macropod.

a macropod, for a region, means thepopulation
density estimated by the chief executive for the macropodfor
the region.“human food”meansasubstanceordinarilyconsumed,orintendedforconsumption, by humans.“maximum
amount”means—(a)for
an eastern grey kangaroo—(i)forthecentralregionforthekangaroo—14.9%oftheestimated population density for the
kangaroo; or(ii)fortheeasternregionforthekangaroo—10%oftheestimated population density for the
kangaroo; or(iii)forthewesternregionforthekangaroo—10%oftheestimated population density for the
kangaroo; or(b)for a red kangaroo—(i)forthecentralregionforthekangaroo—18.6%oftheestimated population density for the
kangaroo; or(ii)fortheeasternregionforthekangaroo—10%oftheestimated population density for the
kangaroo; or(iii)forthewesternregionforthekangaroo—10%oftheestimated population density for the
kangaroo; or(c)for a wallaroo—(i)forthecentralregionforthewallaroo—14.9%oftheestimated population density for the
wallaroo; or(ii)fortheeasternregionforthewallaroo—10%oftheestimated population density for the
wallaroo; or(iii)forthewesternregionforthewallaroo—10%oftheestimated population density for the
wallaroo; or(d)for a whiptail wallaby for all regions
for the wallaby—1% of theestimated population density for the
wallaby.“relevantregion”,foramacropodtowhichthisnoticeapplies,meanseachregionmentionedanddescribed,intheschedule,forthemacropod.

for macropods(1)A harvest period for a macropod to
which this notice applies starts,foreachrelevantregionforthemacropod,on1January2004andendson—(a)ifthechiefexecutivehaspublishedanoticestatingthechiefexecutive is
satisfied the maximum amount for the macropod fortheregionwillhavebeentakenbyaparticularday—theparticular day;
or(b)otherwise—31 December 2004.(2)A notice mentioned in subsection
(1)(a) must be published—(a)in a newspaper
circulating generally throughout the State; and(b)on or
before the day the harvest period ends.1(3)Ifthechiefexecutivepublishes,orintendstopublish,anoticementioned in
subsection (1)(a) for a macropod, the chief executive mustalso
give each holder of a commercial or recreational wildlife
harvestinglicence for the macropod a written notice
stating—(a)thechiefexecutiveissatisfiedthemaximumamountforthemacropodforarelevantregionwillhavebeentakenbyaparticular day;
and(b)the harvest period for the macropod
for the region ends on thatday.(4)The
chief executive must give the notice mentioned in subsection
(3)at least 7 days before the day the harvest
period ends.6Condition about size of macropods
taken for skin only(1)This section applies if a person
intends to take a macropod to whichthis notice
applies for its skin only.(2)The person may
take the macropod only if the skin of the macropodhas an
area of at least 0.37 m2.1Acopyofanoticepublishedunderthissectionmaybeinspectedonthedepartment’swebsite.Atthecommencementofthisnotice,thedepartment’swebsite was

weight of macropods taken for meat only or meatand skin(1)This section applies if a person
intends to take a macropod to whichthis notice
applies for its meat only or for both its meat and skin.(2)Thepersonmaytakethemacropodonlyifthecarcassofthemacropod—(a)weighs at least 20 kg in whole form;
or(b)will weigh, after the macropod has
been dressed—(i)for a macropod taken for animal
food—at least 13 kg; or(ii)for a macropod
taken for human food—at least 14 kg.8ExpiryThis notice
expires on 1 January 2005.
