Compliance Standard 1995.˙Commencement2.This
standard commences on 1 February 1996.˙Purpose of standard3.This
standard gives legislative effect, so far as is possible under
theAct, to theJoint National
Standard for Safe Working in a Confined SpacejointlypreparedbytheNationalOccupationalHealthandSafetyCommission and
the Standards Australia Committee on Work in ConfinedSpaces.˙Who
standard applies to4.(1)This standard
applies to—(a)a designer, manufacturer or supplier
of a confined space for use ata workplace;
and(b)an employer or self-employed person at
a workplace at which aconfined space is used.(2)However, this standard does not apply
to—(a)the construction of a tunnel;
and(b)workplacehealthandsafetyrisksnotdirectlyrelatedto

Risk of slips, trips and falls.2. Risks involved
in carrying out particular tasks such as welding work.˙Compliance with standard5.(1)IfanyofthefollowingprovisionsofAustralianStandardAS
2865—1995 ‘Safe working in a confined space’ applies to a person
towhom this standard applies, the person must
comply with the provision—(a)section 7
(Design, manufacture, supply and modification);(b)section 9.1 (Hazard identification);(c)section 10.1 and 10.2 (Risk
assessment);(d)section 11.1, 11.8 and 11.18 (Control
measures);(e)section12.1to12.4,12.10,12.11and12.13(Safetyoftheatmosphere);(f)section 13.1 to 13.3, 13.9 and 13.14 to
13.16 (Risk control);(g)section 14.1,
14.2, 14.7 and 14.10 (Education and training);(h)section 15.1 and 15.4 (Rescue and first
aid);(i)section 16 (Record keeping).(2)Ifaprovisionmentionedinsubsection(1)isamended,theamendmentdoesnottakeeffectforthissectionunlessthisstandardexpressly
provides otherwise.
