s1 3 s2 Meat Industry Standard 1994 MEAT INDUSTRY STANDARD 1994 [as amended by all amendments that commenced on or before 1 January 2003] 1 Short title This standard may be cited as the Meat Industry Standard 1994 . 2 Definitions In this standard— “calf” means a head of cattle without a permanent incisor and not over 70 kg dressed weight. “cattle unit” means— (a) 1 head of buffalo, camel, cattle (other than a calf) or horse; or (b) 4 calves; or (c) 5 pigs; or (d) 8 crocodiles, deer, emus, goats, kangaroos, ostriches or sheep. “poultry unit” means— (a) 1 chicken, duck, goose or turkey; or (b) 2 partridges, pheasants or guinea fowls; or (c) 3 spatchcocks; or (d) 7 quails. “prepackaged meat” see section 3. “previous year” means the 12 month period immediately before a period covered by a renewal of the accreditation. “proposed number” , in relation to cattle or poultry units, means the number of units stated in the proposed program of production for the accreditation or, if the program has been approved by the Authority, the number of units approved. “quality assurance program” means a quality assurance program approved by the Authority.
s3 4 s5 Meat Industry Standard 1994 “wild game” see section 4. “wild game field depot” means a box used to store a partly dressed wild game carcass. “wild game vehicle” means a vehicle used to carry a wild game carcass to a wild game field depot. 3 Meaning of “prepackaged meat”—Act, s 4 “Prepackaged meat” means meat fully enclosed in a sealed package that— (a) prevents the escape of anything that might be exuded from the meat, including anything exuded if the meat were to thaw; and (b) is made of durable material and resistant to breakage during normal handling; and (c) is sealed so that any opening and re-sealing of the package will be easily seen; and (d) displays the accreditation number under which the meat was packaged. 4 Wild game prescribed—Act, s 4 Animals other than buffalo, camels, cattle, horses or sheep are prescribed as wild game. 5 Prescribed action to be taken by meat safety officer for warning meat is condemned—Act, ss 86(1)(b) and 87(1)(b) (1) The prescribed action under section 86(1)(b) or 87(1)(b) of the Act is to ensure— (a) kerosene is smeared on, or injected into, the condemned meat; or (b) carbolic acid, chloride of lime, oil of tar, oil of turpentine, picric acid or another chemical marker is applied to a surface of the condemned meat. (2) The prescribed action need not be done by the meat safety officer personally if the officer sees the action being done.
s6 5 s7 Meat Industry Standard 1994 6 Form of order to condemn meat An order by a meat safety officer to condemn meat must be in the form approved by the Authority. 7 Prescribed chemical or antibiotic residues, concentration levels and diseases—Act, ss 5(1)(b) and (2)(b) and 12(1)(c) and (2)(b) (1) A chemical residue mentioned in the Stock (Maximum Chemical Residue Limits) Regulation 1989 , column 1 of the Schedule is a prescribed chemical residue. (2) The prescribed concentration level for a prescribed chemical residue is the concentration stated for the residue in column 2 of the Schedule to the regulation for tissue stated in column 3 of the Schedule to the regulation. (3) An antimicrobial residue mentioned in column 1 of the Schedule to the order in council under the Stock Act 1915 gazetted on 16 September 1989 at pages 539 to 541 is a prescribed antibiotic residue. (4) The prescribed concentration level for a prescribed antibiotic residue is the concentration stated for the residue in column 2 of the Schedule to the order for tissue stated in column 3 of the Schedule to the order. (5) The following conditions or substances are a disease— a disease within the meaning of the Stock Act 1915 anaemia anasarca emaciation fever jaundice mastitis myositis neoplasms parasitic cysts pyaemia.
s 8 6 s 10 Meat Industry Standard 1994 8 Official marks and marking devices prescribed—Act, s 4 (1) A mark is an official mark if it is approved by the Authority. (2) A marking device is an official marking device if it is approved by the Authority. 9 Term of accreditation (1) An accreditation is issued for 12 months, but the Authority may renew it. (2) However, the Authority may issue or renew an accreditation for less than 12 months. 10 Fees and concessions—Act, s 70(2)(s) (1) The Schedule sets out the fees payable to the Authority. (2) If the Authority issues or renews an accreditation for less than 12 months, the fee for issue or renewal of the accreditation must be worked out proportionately. (3) A renewal fee for an accreditation is payable yearly in advance.
