1Short title

This regulation may be cited as the Major Events (Motor Racing Events) Regulation 2015.

2Definitions

In this regulation—

Gold Coast 500 means the major event prescribed under section 9.

motor racing event means—

(a)the Gold Coast 500; or

(b)the Townsville 500.

Townsville 500 means the major event prescribed under section 3.

3Townsville 500 is a major event—Act, s 12

For section 12(1) of the Act, the V8 Supercars motor racing event known as the Townsville 500 to be held in 2026 is prescribed as a major event.

4Major event organiser for Townsville 500—Act, s 12

For section 12(2)(a) of the Act, V8 Supercars Australia Pty Ltd ACN 077 053 484 is prescribed as the major event organiser for the Townsville 500.

5Major event area for Townsville 500—Act, s 12

For section 12(2)(b) of the Act, the major event area prescribed for the Townsville 500 is the area surrounding the Townsville Civic Theatre shown on the map in schedule 1 as the major event area.

6Major event period for Townsville 500—Act, s 12

For section 12(2)(c) of the Act, the major event period for the Townsville 500 is the period—

(a)starting on 9 July 2026 at midday; and

(b)ending on 13 July 2026 at midday.

For section 12(2)(d) of the Act, the following provisions of the Act are prescribed as provisions that apply to the Townsville 500 for the major event period—

(a)section 31;

(b)section 36.

For section 12(2)(e) of the Act, the following provisions of the Act are prescribed as provisions that apply to the major event area for the Townsville 500 for the major event period—

For section 16(2) of the Act, the following periods are prescribed—

(a)the period starting on 15 June 2026 at the beginning of the day and ending on 9 July 2026 at midday;

(b)the period starting on 13 July 2026 at midday and ending on 1 August 2026 at the end of the day.

16Display of poster prescribed prohibited conduct

(1)For section 20(6)(h) of the Act, displaying a poster on a property inside the major event area for a motor racing event, including on the outside of a building or structure, is prescribed.

(2)Subsection (1) does not apply to a poster displayed by a person if the poster—

(a)was displayed before the major event period for the motor racing event; and

(b)was displayed in the course of the person’s ordinary activities.

17Persons who may be appointed as authorised persons

For section 56(1)(d) of the Act, crowd controllers under the Security Providers Act 1993 are prescribed for a motor racing event.

18Limitation on particular authorised person’s powers

(1)This section limits, for section 57(2) of the Act, the powers of particular authorised persons for a motor racing event.

(2)The powers of an authorised person who is not a police officer do not include the powers stated in sections 25, 54, 63 and 65 of the Act.

19Application of laws to roads

For section 80(1)(b) of the Act, each road shown in the major event area for a motor racing event shown on the map in schedule 1 or 2 ceases to be a road for the major event period for the event.

20Assessing building work

(1)This section applies to a building certifier engaged to assess building work for the purpose of giving a compliance certificate for section 78(3) of the Act.

(2)Before giving a compliance certificate for the building work, the building certifier must—

(a)consult Queensland Fire and Rescue about a special fire service or any work involving a fire-related performance solution for the building work; and

(b)if the building work is for a building or structure that is proposed to have a special fire service or involves a fire-related performance solution—obtain and consider a report from Queensland Fire and Rescue on the suitability of the proposed special fire service or fire-related performance solution.

(3)In this section—

building certifier see the Building Act 1975, section 8.

building work see the Building Act 1975, section 5.

fire-related performance solution means a performance solution as defined under the Building Act 1975, schedule 2 for performance requirements relating to fire safety.

performance requirements see the Building Act 1975, schedule 2.

special fire service see the Building Act 1975, schedule 2.
