How to ensure a reprint is up to date

Although we aim to publish an updated reprint as soon as possible after changes to Queensland legislation take effect, there are a few steps you can follow to check if all the changes that have commenced are consolidated in the current reprint of the legislation on the website—see below.

It may also be helpful for you to know if there are ‘potential’ changes to legislation because of amendments included in a Bill

How can I check for changes not consolidated in the current reprint?

  •

Step 1—what’s the reprint date on the current reprint?

Locate the current reprint and note the reprint (current as at) date from the status information page or the PDF version.

  • On the status information page, you’ll find the reprint date by looking—

  • for ‘Current version for [date]’—immediately under the name of the reprint or under the ‘Currency of version’ heading in the lower half of the page

  • at the date associated with the green spot (reprint being viewed) on the timeline.

  • On the cover page of the PDF version, the reprint date is the ‘Current as at’ date.

The reprint includes all changes to the legislation that commenced before or on that reprint date.

  •

Step 2—identifying changes that have commenced but aren’t consolidated

To identify changes to the legislation that commenced on a date later than the reprint date (but not a future date) i.e. commenced changes not consolidated in the reprint—

  • From the status information page for the reprint, click on the Legislative History button and scroll through the list of legislation looking for 'comm' plus a date.

  • Check if any of these entries is for a past date that is later than the reprint date noted in step 1 above—these are the commenced amendments not yet consolidated in the current reprint.

  • You can view these unconsolidated commenced amendments by clicking on the titles in the list of legislation and locating the relevant provisions.
  •

Step 3—identifying changes that will commence on a future date

To identify legislated changes that are due to commence on a future date—

  • From the status information page for the reprint, click on the Legislative History button and scroll through the list of legislation, looking for 'comm' plus a future date or ‘not yet proclaimed into force’ text—these are uncommenced amendments that will be consolidated in future reprints.

  • You can view these uncommenced amendments by clicking on the titles in the List of Legislation and locating the relevant provisions.

Note: Dates for amendments commencing by proclamation will appear in the list of legislation (with a link to the proclamation) when relevant proclamations are notified and a date is legislated.

  •

Step 4—are there amendments to the reprint included in a Bill?

To check if there are amendments to the legislation included in a Bill that has been introduced into the Parliament—

  • From the status information page for the reprint, click on the Legislative History button and scroll to the end of the list of legislation looking for entries for Bills.

  • You can view the proposed amendments to the legislation by clicking on the link to the Bill and locating the relevant provisions.

  • To check if the Bill has been passed but not yet assented to, go to www.parliament.qld.gov.au > Work of the Assembly > Bills and Legislation > Bills this Parliament—find the relevant Bill alphabetically within the year of introduction.

  • If the Bill is shown as ‘PASSED’, the introduced Bill was not amended during passage and has now have been legislated, awaiting assent—your search is complete.

  • If the Bill is shown as ‘PASSED with amendment’, return to the status information page for the Bill and click the Legislative history button.

  • Scroll to the bottom of the page and look for the 3rd reading date and links—click on one of these links to view the Bill as passed with the amendments made during passage consolidated.

Note: The 3rd reading version of a Bill consolidating amendments made during passage is prepared and uploaded to this website as soon as possible after passage but there can sometimes be a delay while all checks are completed. Please contact us if you would like to enquire about when a particular 3rd reading for a Bill may be available.

  • Use the 3rd reading version of the Bill to view the final legislated amendments for the legislation in which you’re interested.
