Right to information

What is Right to Information?

The Right to Information is the Queensland Government's approach to giving the community greater access to information.
The Queensland Government has made a commitment to provide access to information held by the Government, unless on balance it is contrary to the public interest to provide that information.
New legislation replacing the Freedom of Information Act 1992 came into effect on 1 July 2009, namely:

The Right to Information reforms aim to make more information available, provide equal access to information across all sectors of the community, and provide appropriate protection for individuals' privacy.

Accessing Information

We're making it easier to access information about the office, our services, finances, policies, as well as information released through Right to Information (RTI) requests.

There are several options available to access this information. You can:

  • Check to see if the information you're looking for is already available from:
    • our publication scheme - information about the office, our services, finances, priorities, and policies
    • our disclosure log (Released Information) – non-personal information released through the RTI legal process
    • our website.
  • Contact us on (07) 3003 9600 or email rti@oqpc.qld.gov.au if the information is not already available. We'll help determine if the information is accessible through an administrative release process, or we'll advise if you need to make an RTI request to access it.

If you need to make an RTI request, you can access the information through one of the following options:

Amending personal details in documents

Under the IP Act, you may apply to amend documents containing personal information where you believe that the relevant information is inaccurate, misleading, out of date or incomplete.

Download the Information Privacy Personal Amendment Application form (PDF, 91KB) and submit it via email to rti@oqpc.qld.gov.au or by fax to (07) 3235 4513.

Disclosure log

Information requested and released through the Right to Information (RTI) process, is made available to the public through our disclosure log.

In our disclosure log you will find details of non-personal information released under the Right to Information Act 2009 that has a wider public interest. The log lists documents in date order with a brief description of each document and a link to download it if possible.

Note: The Right to Information Act 2009 came into effect from 1 July 2009 and at this time our disclosure log does not contain any requested information.

Our disclosure log will be updated as information is released under the RTI process.

Publication scheme

The office's publication scheme details information we routinely make available to the public.

Our publication scheme describes and categorises the information routinely available from the office. It has been developed to give the community greater access to information.
