Note: Contact OQPC’s legislation helpline on 3237 0466 for assistance with the research outlined below.
Step 1
Go to the Annotations cumulative update to legislation and search for the title of the relevant legislation:
- If there is no entry for that legislation, there have been no changes during the period covered by the cumulative update, the current reprint is up to date and no further research is required. (The period appears in the footer on every page.)
- If there is an entry for that legislation note the following details—
- any amending legislation listed (including any amending Bill, Act or notified subordinate legislation)
- the commencement dates of the amendments (if actual dates are given).
(Note: Many Acts commence ‘on a date to be fixed by proclamation’. Dates are included in the cumulative update when they are proclaimed.)
Step 2
Find the latest reprint using the alphabetical table:
- Check the date of the latest reprint (on the front cover) against the commencement date of the amending legislation identified in step 1.
- If the current reprint date is the same or later than the latest amending legislation commencement date, the reprint has incorporated all the commenced amendments and no further research is required.
- If not, follow the steps below to find the relevant amendments in the original amending legislation. These amendments have to be taken into account and read in conjunction with the latest reprint.
Step 3
If the relevant amendments are included in an Act, go to Acts as passed:
- Locate the relevant Act by clicking on the year of the Act then locating the document either by number or alphabetically.
- Using the table of contents and the information in the cumulative update entry, locate the relevant amendments not incorporated into the latest reprint and read these in conjunction with that reprint.
Step 4
If the relevant amendments are included in subordinate legislation, go to SL as made:
- Locate the relevant subordinate legislation by clicking on the year of the subordinate legislation then locating the document either by number or alphabetically.
- Using the table of contents and the information in the cumulative update entry, locate the relevant amendments not incorporated into the latest reprint and read these in conjunction with that reprint.
Step 5
If the cumulative update indicates (at the end of the entry) the relevant legislation is to be amended by a Bill before the Legislative Assembly, these amendments may also need to be taken into account:
- Check the progress of the Bill by accessing www.parliament.qld.gov.au > Work of the Assembly > Bills and Legislation > Bills this Parliament. Bills are arranged alphabetically within the year of introduction.
- If the Bill is shown as PASSED, check if it has been assented to and numbered.
- If the Bill has been assented to, click on the ‘Act’ link for that Bill to return to the OQPC website.
- Using the table of contents and the commencement details in section 2 of the Act, locate the relevant amendments not incorporated into the latest reprint and read these in conjunction with that reprint.
- If the Bill is shown as PASSED but has not been assented to, check if the Bill was passed ‘with amendment’.
- If the Bill was not amended, click on the ‘Bill’ link for that Bill to return to the OQPC website.
- Using the table of contents and the commencement details in section 2 of the Bill, locate the relevant amendments not incorporated into the latest reprint and read these in conjunction with that reprint.
- If the Bill was introduced before 2013 and was amended:
- Click on the ‘AinC govt agreed’ link to view the amendments made to the Bill.
- Also click on the ‘Bill’ link for that Bill to return to the OQPC website.
- Using the table of contents and the commencement details in section 2 of the Bill, locate the relevant amendments not incorporated into the latest reprint. Read these in conjunction with that reprint and the amendments agreed to for the Bill.
- If the Bill was introduced from 2013 and was amended:
- Return to Bills introduced into Parliament on the OQPC website and locate the relevant Bill by clicking on the year of the Bill then locating the document alphabetically.
- Click on the icon
in the ‘3rd reading, if amended’ column to view the Bill as passed with agreed amendments incorporated.
- Using the table of contents and the commencement details in section 2 of the Bill, locate the relevant amendments not incorporated into the latest reprint and read these in conjunction with that reprint.
