Cremations Regulation 20251Short titleThis regulation may be cited as the Cremations Regulation 2025.2CommencementThis regulation commences on 1 September 2025.3Labelling ashes—Act, s 11For section 11(1)(a) of the Act, the following requirements are prescribed—

(a)a label must be securely attached to the exterior of each container in which the ashes are stored;

(b)the label must be legible;

(c)the label must include the following information—

(i)the deceased person’s name;

(ii)if the person in charge of the crematorium has been given the deceased person’s date of death—the date of death;

(iii)the cremation date;

(iv)the name and address of the crematorium;

(v)if the person in charge of the crematorium has allocated a number for the cremation for the purpose of identifying the cremation—the number;

(d)if the ashes are stored in more than 1 container, each label must—

(i)be consecutively numbered; and

(ii)state the total number of containers in which the ashes are stored.

Example for paragraph (d)—A deceased person’s ashes are stored in 2 containers. The label for 1 container includes the words ‘No. 1 of 2’ and the label for the other container includes the words ‘No. 2 of 2’.4Particulars for record of cremation—Act, s 14For section 14(1)(a) of the Act, the following particulars are prescribed—

(a)to the extent the particulars are given to the person in charge of the crematorium—

(i)the deceased person’s name; and

(ii)the deceased person’s age at the date of death; and

(iii)the date and place of the deceased person’s death; and

(iv)the deceased person’s usual or last known place of residence;

(b)the cremation date;

(c)the date the permission to cremate was issued by the coroner or independent doctor;

(d)if the ashes are disposed of under section 11(1)(b) of the Act—

(i)the details of the applicant’s instructions; and

(ii)the date and way in which the instructions were carried out;

(e)if the ashes are disposed of under section 11(2) of the Act—

(i)the date the notice under section 11(3) of the Act was given to the applicant; and

(ii)the date and place of burial.
