1Short titleThis regulation may be cited as the Local Government (Townsville City Council—Suspension of Mayor) Amendment Regulation 2024.2Regulation amendedThis regulation amends the Local Government Regulation 2012.3Insertion of new s 253Before section 254—insert—253Suspension of mayor (Townsville City Council)—Act, s 122(1)The nominated councillor is suspended from office as the mayor of the Townsville City Council for the period of 1 year starting on 22 November 2024.Note—Subsection (1) gives effect to a recommendation made in writing by the Minister, on 21 November 2024 under section 122(2)(b) of the Act, that the Governor in Council suspend the nominated councillor for the period mentioned in the subsection. See also section 122(3) of the Act.(2)The suspension does not affect the nominated councillor’s entitlement to be paid remuneration as mayor for the period.(3)This section expires on 22 November 2025.(4)In this section—nominated councillor means Troy Thompson.
