(2) Part 3 commences on 5 October 2026. 3 Regulation amended This regulation amends the Medicines and Poisons (Medicines) Regulation 2021. Part 2 Amendments commencing on 1 March 2026 4 Insertion of new ch 10, pt 4 Chapter 10— insert— Part 4 Transitional provision for Medicines and Poisons (Medicines) Amendment Regulation 2026 258 Particular qualifications or training taken to be immunisation training (1) This section applies if, immediately before the commencement—
  • (a) a person was required, for practising a profession under a former extended practice authority, to hold a particular qualification or have completed particular training to deal with a medicine stated in the authority to carry out an immunisation program or service; and
  • (b) the person held the qualification or had completed the training.
    • (2) From the commencement, for applying schedule 3, 7 or 9 to the person practising the profession, the person is taken to have completed immunisation training to carry out the same type of dealing with any immunisation medicine. (3) In this section— former extended practice authority means an extended practice authority in effect immediately before the commencement.     5 Amendment of sch 1 (Extended practice authorities and departmental standards) (1) Schedule 1, part 1, table, entries for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioners and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers— omit, insert— Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioners 7 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health workers 5

    6 Amendment of sch 3, pt 1 (Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioners) Schedule 3, part 1, section 3, table, items 1, 3 and 4— omit, insert— 1 give a treatment dose
  • (a) a medicine mentioned in the extended practice authority called ‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioners’
    • the medicine is given—
  • • under the extended practice authority; and
  • • in accordance with a practice plan for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioner
  • (b) an S2 medicine that is paracetamol
    • the medicine is given for the treatment of a side effect, or a potential side effect, of an immunisation medicine     3 administer
  • (a) a medicine mentioned in the extended practice authority called ‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioners’
    • the medicine is administered—
  • • under the extended practice authority; and
  • • in accordance with a practice plan for the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioner
  • (b) an S4 medicine that is an immunisation medicine
    • the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioner has completed immunisation training
  • (c) adrenaline (epinephrine)
    • the medicine is administered to treat anaphylaxis
  • (d) an S2 medicine that is paracetamol
    • the medicine is administered for the treatment of a side effect, or a potential side effect, of an immunisation medicine     4 give a purchase order
  • (a) stock of a medicine mentioned in the extended practice authority called ‘Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioners’
    • the purchase order—
  • • is given under the extended practice authority; and
  • • is for stock for the relevant health service to be used in a place in an isolated practice area
  • (b) stock of an S4 medicine that is an immunisation medicine
    • the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander health practitioner has completed immunisation training
    7 Amendment of sch 7, pt 2 (Midwives) (1) Schedule 7, part 2, section 6, table, item 1— insert—
  • (e) an S2 medicine that is paracetamol
    • the medicine is given for the treatment of a side effect, or a potential side effect, of an immunisation medicine
    (2) Schedule 7, part 2, section 6, table, item 2— insert—
  • (g) an S4 medicine that is an immunisation medicine
    • the midwife has completed immunisation training
    (3) Schedule 7, part 2, section 6, table, item 4— omit, insert— 4 give a purchase order
  • (a) stock of a medicine mentioned in the extended practice authority called ‘Midwives’

    (2) Schedule 7, part 3, section 11, table, item 2— insert—
  • (f) an S4 medicine that is an immunisation medicine
    • the registered nurse has completed immunisation training
    (3) Schedule 7, part 3, section 11, table, item 3— omit, insert— 3 give a purchase order

    • 10 Amendment of sch 22 (Dictionary) Schedule 22— insert— immunisation training means—
  • (a) an immunisation education program that is accredited by the entity known as ‘Health Education and Services Australia’ as meeting the standards set out in the document called the ‘National immunisation education framework for health professionals’ published by the Commonwealth; or
  • (b) an immunisation training program that is accredited by the entity known as the ‘Australian Pharmacy Council’ as meeting the standards set out in the document called the ‘Standards for the accreditation of programs to support pharmacist administration of vaccines’ published by that entity.
